GENESIS SCIENCE FORUM

community.jpg Genesis Research sponsored the National Science and Technology Forum from 1996 to 2005. The Forum was initiated in 1990 by the Rotary Club of New Zealand and aims to expose secondary school students to exciting careers in science. It is a programme for 120 outstanding science, mathematics and technology students in Year 12 who will be returning to Year 13 and are planning to enter tertiary programmes in science or technology. Also attending will be six students from Australia who have won places in the Forum. Staff from Massey, Auckland and Waikato Universities, the Auckland University of Technology, Manukau Institute of Technology and Genesis Research co-operate to present a science program for the students.

Local Rotary Clubs distribute promotional information to secondary schools, and applications from interested students must be lodged with Rotary Clubs through science teachers in August each year. Selection of participants on Club and District level is based on proven scholastic achievement and positive personal qualities. In addition to attending the National Science and Technology Forum in the following January, six students are selected to attend the Australian Forum, and two students have the opportunity to attend the International Youth Science Forum in London.
