DR ANDY GEARING APPOINTED AS DIRECTOR OF GENESIS RESEARCH

Auckland, New Zealand, 26 January 2006 – Genesis Research and Development Corporation Ltd (NZSX/ASX: GEN) advises that Dr Andy Gearing has been appointed to the Board of Directors. Mr Aki von Roy, Chairman of Genesis, commented “We appreciate this opportunity to add further business development expertise to our Board. Dr Gearing has excellent contacts and experience, not just in Australia but also in other major biotech markets.” Dr Gearing is based in Melbourne, Australia, where he is the Chief Executive of Biocomm Services, an international life sciences business development company that also has a seed funding capability. Dr Gearing has a successful track record in research management and business development in the European biotechnology sector. Dr Gearing moved to Australia early in 2001 to establish Biocomm, which has provided its services to many prestigious academic institutions as well as private and listed biotechnology company clients in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, North America and Europe. Under Dr Gearing’s management, Biocomm has successfully completed 11 international licensing transactions for its clients and has established three new biotechnology companies. As previously signalled to shareholders at the last annual meeting, Dr Jim Watson offered his resignation from the Genesis Board. The board accepted this resignation and paid tribute to the efforts of Dr Watson, who has been a director of the company since it was founded in 1993.
